272d95f0f1 base-files: remove rdate integration, add busybox ntpd init script and server list in /etc/config/system The rdate applet proved to be too unreliable to obtain the current time on boot: - public time servers are rare and often unreachable or overloaded - rdate does not daemonize, it needs a network connection the moment it is started, leading to race conditions - the /etc/config/timeserver configuration is overly complex and there is no reliable way to disable rdate invocations - the time protocol as specified in RFC 868 is considered obsolete This commit adds an init script /etc/init.d/sysntpd which starts and stops the busybox ntpd accordingly. The builtin ntpd can be disabled by either disabling the init script, removing the symlink to busybox or by clearing the timeserver list in /etc/config/system.

48465d3d63 base-files: fix minor problem in init.d/boot 
The script tests for the existance of /dev/root with test -e which fails if
/dev/root is a dangling symlink making the call to ln fail.

eafa2ec962 option to allow boot to run to completion before starting shell 
Setting the system variable "foreground" to yes causes the system to run
the init scripts in series and wait for completion.

This is useful if (a) you don't want the user getting into the console
until the system is initialized, or (b) you have things going on in your
scripts that require strict ordering (and no possible race conditions).

7d67818ab1 Revert "add ifup -a to boot(), closes #4543 #2781" (r17515) Hotpluggable interfaces are already brought up before /etc/init.d/network boot and this change can break them, if the ifup -a command runs at the wrong time, also starts many interfaces twice, which can lead to issues with PPPoE.

d36374c428 init: check permissions on rc.d files 
We try to unconditionally execute /etc/rc.d/* files, even if they're
not executable - an easy way of temproarily disabling a service. When
this happens, we get a permission denied error on boot.

This change only tries to run execulable startup scripts.

b443ee0fbb init: don't start hotplug2 if it doesn't exist 
The current init script always tries to start hotplug 2, even if
it's not present, so we get an error on boot.

This change checks for the presence of the hotplug2 binary before
trying to start it.

2c62bddcfe Add an 'Image Configuration' menu to menuconfig Packages can export a list of config options with labels and data types through the metadata. The selected config values will be exported to the target filesystem in /etc/uci-defaults and applied on the first boot.

656412d1a3 Forward port whiterussian resolv.conf changes /etc/resolv.conf links to /tmp/resolv.conf /tmp/resolv.conf links to /tmp/resolv.conf.auto by default (which is where the ISPs nameserver is in) When dnsmasq starts, it replaces /tmp/resolv.conf with a file pointing to 127.0.0.1
